Hi all,
I hope you’re well and enjoying the sun. I’ve just moved to Galway and already been for my Blackrock dip. It’s great to be back.
I was recently commissioned by The Dock in Carrick-on-Shannon to write a response to ‘Second Summer’ (available to read here). The exhibition features work from Brian Fay, David Smith, Ellen Duffy, Eve O’Callaghan, Fiona Finlay and Jamie Cross.
Instead of aiming to translate the work, this text looks at the practice of one craft (writing) through the observation of another (painting, sculpture, drawing and so on). I have also been thinking a lot about tactility and attention, as things reopen and we gain some distance from the screen. I build on these ideas too, in a written response to Yuri Pattison’s exhibition, ‘the engine’ at The Douglas Hyde Gallery. Keep an eye out for that one, I’ll be sharing it soon!
Bye for now,
Meadhbh
‘Second Summer’ is open at The Dock Tuesday to Saturday until 28 August, 2021.
